If at first you don't succeed...

Last year I tried to get a children's book published. When I submitted it to the publisher, she said it wasn't original enough. So, I decided earlier this week to try again. I was having serious issues coming up with an original story that I liked, but on Saturday at Luke's soccer game my mom gave me a great idea. After that the rest of the family pitched in, and so far it is turning out well. I have lots of drawings of the main character, and a few of the other minor characters. The only problem is that I have done more drawing than writing so far, but I think I'll be able to write the story pretty easily. I'm crossing my fingers that this book gets published because that would be one of the coolest things thats ever happened to me!

Hi Megan, it's Auntie Lauren! I have a little advice that I hope will be helpful! My boss had a children's book published last year ("The Boy Who Was Raised By Librarians") through Peachtree (they are a good one to try) and she told me all about the process. It's really frustrating, so you are not alone! The first thing they tell you is that your drawings/story might not be accepted together, in which case they will pick another author/illustrator for you. Also, they might even change the title! Don't give up, I know you have a huge imagination and I will be the first one in line at your book signing!!! LOVE YOU!!!
